Do Not Rob the Little Violet

The splendor of the rose and the whiteness of the lily
do not rob the little violet of its scent nor the daisy of its simple charm,
If every tiny flower wanted to be a rose,
Spring would lose its loveliness.
Therese of Lisieux

I have a certain fondness for violets. Violet's mean faithful in the language of flowers. A cottage epitomizes a certain cozy, warm, way of living or life. At Cottage Violet's we try to live up to our name and evoke feelings of warmth and comfort when you walk through our webby doors. We faithfully bring you lovely china, tchotchkes, and crafts that would fit into any cozy cottage. Here is a little assortment of violet quotes and violet pieces to show you what we mean. I have chosen to showcase Hammersley Victorian Violets china today.
***Please, have a hankie at the ready. We wouldn't want someone to catch you with drool on your screen.

Stars will blossom in the darkness, Violets bloom beneath the snow.
Julia C. Dorr (from "For A Silver Wedding)

Winds wanders, and dews drip earthward; Rains fall, suns rise and set;
Earth whirls, and all but to prosper A poor little violet.
James Russell Lowell (from "The Changeling")

The violets prattle and titter, And gaze on the stars high above.
Heinrich Heine (from "Book of Songs")

Cold blows the wind against the hill, And cold upon the plain;
I sit me by the bank, until The violets come again.
Richard Garnett (from "Violets")
.
.
And last, but not least, we can thank our dearly beloved Mark Twain for this closing quote:
.
"Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it."
.
If someone has wronged you, please, forgive them today and let the fragrance of your love and forgiveness be shed abroad. It will come back to you in ways you never even imagined. Our Holy Saviour said, "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do." If He can forgive the cruelty he suffered, I can forgive the petty little complaints I have nurtured and grown.
Have a beautiful blessed day,
Theresa @ Cottage Violet's

I collect tea cups -- and my very first one (a gift from my mother) had violets on it. It's still one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing!

How in the world can you part with these lovelies?? I'd want to keep every one, they are so special.

I only have a few violet things and cherish each and every one of them. Such a lovely flower and in full bloom in my yard as we speak.

FIRSTLY, 'Happy Mother's Day' to you for all the joy you bring the little ones, as you walk down life's path. I wrote a special blog that you inspired in me. You are so blessed.

Violets were my Mother's favorite flower, for everything. She had a teacup violet collection that was gorgeous, I saw the joy they brought her. I think of her & her joy ever time I see them.

My favorite flowers are violets, lilacs & roses ... my first flowers from hubby were violets on Mother's Day.

The scent is so soft & sweet, they are so delicate.

Beautiful presentation in your post of all the lovelies.

yes, I adore the song "Mary Did you know!" It has to be one of my favorites. Honestly until that song came out, we have not had a lot of great Christmas hymns...other than the old beautiful standards! :)

The Violet

Down in a green and shady bed,
A modest violet grew;
Its stalk was bent, it hung its head
As if to hide from view.

And yet it was a lovely flower,
Its colour bright and fair;
It might have graced a rosy bower,
Instead of hiding there.

Yet thus it was content to bloom,
In modest tints arrayed;
And there diffused a sweet perfume,
Within the silent shade.

Then let me to the valley go
This pretty flower to see;
That I may also learn to grow
In sweet humility.
